Viter S (2024). Faunistic and floristic records in the Kharkiv and some other regions in 2022-2024 period and some earlier years. Version 1.3. Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group (NGO). Occurrence dataset https://doi.org/10.15468/pravhb accessed via GBIF.org on 2025-10-13.

Description

Data from the registration of flora and fauna species that took place within the Kharkiv as well as from Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Cherkasy administrative regions of Ukraine and Autonomous Republic of Crimea are presented in this dataset. A detailed description of biotopes is given, for migratory and introduced species the relevant status is mentioned. The dataset contains information on the number and density of the local populations or the number of individuals that were observed. Information on the latest and first registrations of migratory birds, active individuals of amphibians and reptiles, as well as imago stages of insects within the Kharkiv region is provided. Where possible, information subspecies taxonomic status is given. For particular records information about certain color variations (morphs), which is relevant for the sand lizard (Lacerta agilis), some diurnal butterflies, birds (owls (Strigiformes), diurnal birds of prey (Falconiformes, Accipitriformes)) is given.

Sampling Description

Study Extent

The research was conducted in Ukraine Ukraine: Kharkiv region, central, northern, southern and southwestern and southeastern districts - within the following physiographic regions: Kharkiv highland forest-steppe region, East Poltava highland forest-steppe region, Oryl'-Samara lowland steppe region and Zadonetsk - Don steppe region (Starobilsk slope-upland region). Particular records from Cherkasy, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia regions and Autonomous Republic of Crimea. Time of main research conducted is 2022-2024. Particular records from earlier years are also included. Biotopes, habitats and landscapes studied, include: upland oak forests, forest-steppe and steppe forests, grass and herbaceous steppes, dry and floodplain meadows, floodplain swamps (reed, cattail, sedge, alder swamp groves) and forests (oak, willow-poplar forests, stands of Acer negundo), thickets, swamps and lakes 3 — 4 terraces of the river valley, settlements, fields and fallows.

Sampling

When conducting the research the author mainly used the method of route counts of birds, amphibians, reptiles, etc with subsequent visual identification. Insects were observed in places of concentration: trees with flowing sap, flowering plants, areas of sandy soil, puddles (waterholes). All animals and plants were identified to the level of species (in rare cases - to the level of subspecies). Georeferencing was made using the smarthphone GPS-navigators.

Quality Control
