The National Herbarium of Suriname (BBS)

Description

The National Herbarium of Suriname (BBS) has a plant collection that can be used as a scientific reference collection. It is a source of information regarding the flora of the Guianas, particularly Suriname, to obtain data for scientific and vernacular names. The National Herbarium stands surety for the dependability of plant names according to the plant systematics. It is the responsibility of the National Herbarium to support scientific research and education on all levels through education, information and awareness. Research into the occurrence and distribution of species is a source of information to determine the status of among others the biodiversity. Recognition of threatened and rare species, the status of species, provides information for nature conservation. The collection supports the conservation of cultural and natural heritage of Suriname.
