Biodiversity data is currently fragmented across Lithuanian institutions, limiting its use by policymakers and practitioners for conservation planning. Compounded with a lack of expertise in biodiversity data processing and publishing, research and decision-making are also impacted. To address these challenges, the project will offer tailored training programs to enhance data literacy and promote efficient data mobilization within the GBIF framework, focussing on data accessibility, database management, integration and analytical skills in Lithuania. Activities will include workshops, webinars and online resources to strengthen stakeholders' skills in data collection, analysis and sharing. A key focus of this project is aligning with international data standards and quality assurance methods to address capacity gaps in Lithuania’s biodiversity information network.
The project aims to develop a centralized biodiversity data resource and a trained stakeholder network. These outcomes will provide valuable insights for decision-makers and policymakers, ensure that data is accessible, standardized, interoperable, and integrated across national and global platforms, particularly GBIF. The project will benefit the broader GBIF community by increasing the volume and quality of shared data, supporting global biodiversity monitoring, research and policy development. Regional engagement will be enhanced through an open seminar and shared training resources to allow other GBIF nodes to benefit from the project’s outputs. By strengthening Lithuania's involvement in the GBIF network, the project lays the groundwork for the long-term goal of formal participation in GBIF by Lithuania.
