Description

A Rocha Kenya is committed to the collection, curation and use of high quality biodiversity data for conservation. Since 1998 we have carried out studies focussed on the threatened habitats and species in the Watamu / Malindi region of the north Kenya coast. In particular studies have been carried out on resident and migrant birds, indigenous forest regeneration growth rates, entomological surveys of little-known habitats and sites, coral reef resilience, the intertidal zone, elasmobranch diversity and population status, the phenology of indigenous coastal trees, and carried out baseline biodiversity surveys of Watamu National Marine Park, Arabuko-Sokoke Forest, Gede Ruins National Monument, Sabaki River Mouth and the Dakatcha Woodlands. A Rocha Kenya is a lead partner of the Kenya Bird Map http://kenyabirdmap.adu.org.za/ and heads up the Ngulia Bird Migration Project based in Tsavo West National Park.
